The senior members of the james family visited their not so distant relatives the hirwa family today. Spending an hour with the gorillas was fantastic. More later.

Hiya! Just catching up with all of your great blogs from the past month or so. Great stuff! Your posts about camping at the Twiga Lodge brought back so many memories - it's almost exactly twenty years since I last camped there! Man, time flies...
I'm just back from 3 weeks in Indonesia on a dive boat sailing to the Komodo Islands to see the dragons and scuba diving along the way. Lots of manta rays & dolphins and still quite a few fairly healthy reefs so well worth it.
Sheena & Georgia and I are now back in Bangkok and getting settled in our new place. We've only been here a week but are really liking it here. After all your African adventures you'll have to come back to see us in Asia!
Please keep the blogs rolling - (it must be a huge hassle and likely to get worse!), but it's great to read all your news, so keep it coming.
Hello from Georgous Clarens! We have just opened Sheena's pressies and she will certainly smell nice!
Wish you were here with us. It is a bit strange to be here without you. Sheena is in your bedroom, Anne is in Rebecca's room and I am in the first room. Last night we arrived, went straight to Street Cafe for dinner and went to bed, with electric blankets, by 8:30! Hooray....what a party!
Have read the blog and Heidi and I have been to many of the places in the pictures, particularly the Equator. We have the exact same picture with the concrete circle. But the most important thing to tell you is, those are not bananas! They are Matokes (sp?), a savoury banana that is the staple diet of the Ugandan people. On your way back through Uganda, you really must stop at a local restaurant and have matokes with ground nut paste and tilapia. Devine!
I can't wait to read about the gorillas and am so pleased that you got to see them!
As for me. Lots of changes at work...again...James has asked Gary to head up the Sandton business Centre, so he will not be working for me anymore. What a bummer, he was a life saver for me and was invaluable in the set up of the division. But, his move makes for more opportunities for the other members of the team, so we are looking at the bright side.
Reyn is back in London and we had a really great week, full of activity. Next time we see each other is 21 August, when we go to Copenhagen. We will stay in Copenhagen Friday - Sunday. My friend Anne's birthday is on Saturday night and we will visit her "beach house" on Sunday. Several of my class mates from INSEAD will also be there. On Monday, we will take the overnight ferry to Oslo, which is supposed to be beautiful since it is light till late.
Heather is off to the Kruguer Park race on Tuesday so send your good thoughts. I initially wrote "god thoughts" Maybe that is more appropriate!
We are breaking from tradition today. We will not have Clarens lunch, but are off to Clementines for Sheena's long boozy birthday lunch.
Wish you were here! Miss you madly and love you truely!
greetings from a balmy wintersday in Joeys. weather has been incredible this winter. Ant is adapting nicely to the red bank - actually as he would correct me: the light-blue bank! He's just come back from a 2 week stint in London - again most amazing weather! I have bought a piano and am taking lessons!! can you believe it at my old age ha-ha.. Your trip sounds so inviting - do enjoy and wishing you many more happy memories... opened a lovely port on Sat and thought of Rich!! Tristen is turning 5 on Thursday and we're off to the planetarium with him and his buddies. lots of love, ant and sue
So thrilled you managed to see the gorillas. Truly a life changing experience and I can't wait to hear all about it and see some photos. I still have a very clear image in my mind of seeing them over 20 years ago and you know how good my memory is; not! Clarens was as beautiful as ever and I was very happy in the angel's bed looking up at the stars and moon. Lunch at clementines was excellent as usual. Very lazy weekend; just what the doctor ordered. Will send you an Email later this week with info on the Rosebank hospital story etc. No more news on Emma. She still hasn't seen the stroke specialists and has not heard when it will be but has an appt for another MRI this month to check that all the blood etc has been reabsorbed. I cannot believe how bad the NHS has become. Love Anne

“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain
A travel and bush-mad family. We have travelled through Africa from SA to UK. We would like to do a similar trip through South and Central America. Richard has found his way - solo - to Nigeria. Wow!
